Characteristics of the hourglass body shape are:

  • Your full hip- line and your full bust-line are the same width
  • Your waist is defined
  • When you gain weight, the fat usually stores evenly throughout your well -proportioned curves

Examples of this body shape are Kelly Brook and Scarlett Johansson




Avoid anything stiff that makes you look boxy. Invest in clothes and accessories that accentuate your proportional body figure by using your waist as a focal point.

Waist accentuating details:

Voluminous skirts (including the bottoms of dresses) full or tulip skirt because they make your waist even smaller.

A-line and pencil will also flatter on you.

Nipped waist tops, dresses and jackets.

Dark coloured belt wrapped around the narrowest part of your waist.

Soft fabrics, knits and drapey silk blends as well as fabric with a bit of stretch will really accentuate and complement (flow with) your curves.

V-necks and low neck lines. Your curvy hourglass body shape needs this slimming neckline. Especially if your well endowed.
