Barcelona

My other half decided to surprise me with a four-day trip to Barcelona. I nearly fell off the bar stool with excitement, well after about 3mins reading the flippin page the details were printed on … I just spotted Barcelona and jumped with glee….how long had I to pack and organise everything including stripping all the beds in the house, washing the floors and milton-ing each and every surface within an inch of its life “1 WHOLE DAY” #AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I found out on Friday evening over a Carling Shandy and we were up at 4.00am on Sunday morning. Hence I didn’t have time for the above. Just enough time to pack. I or we were super excited to be heading off as we had never been before and along with the fact it had been 4 years since we were on our own for more than a night … F.R.E.E.D.O.M  . We were staying in Ilunion Auditori Hotel and we had our breakfast included, which was great and we filled up every morning as when in Barcelona you will walk the legs off yourself believe me. We flew out of Cork into Barcelona then boarded the train to Barcelona. Getting the train can be tricky and a lot of people mistake the Metro for the train so do be extra careful. Look out for the “Rodalis R2 Nord” Service & it will bring you to the centre of Barcelona. There are Information desks at the station so if in doubt just ask someone. Buy a T-10 Ticket at the station. This ticket only costs €10.00 and includes the train ride into Barcelona city and your return journey. It can be shared between two people and you will each get 5 trips with this ticket on the Metro/Train or Bus so it is incredible value, and well worth purchasing.

These are the first sights I saw once off the train and I gasped, such beautiful architecture, I was in love with this city already. These buildings were designed by Spanish architect Gaudi and are very individual and distinctive.

Tapas are a must when in Barcelona and there are Tapas bars everywhere. Just keep away from the  Tapas bars on the main street of LaRamblas as they tend to be pricey. There are a lot of All you can eat Buffet restaurants around and you can taste a wide variety of tapas for a fraction of the price (around €15.00) great if your on a tight budget !

Places we visited in Barcelona:

  • Church of Santa Maria Del Mar- it is open to the public from 5.oopm so well worth a visit.
  • Parc De La Ciutadella
  • Gothic Quarter
  • Barcelona Cathedral
  • Arc De Triomfe

We visited the port on two occasions and checked out the Maremagnum Shopping Centre there and returned another day to take a little 30 min boat trip around the port which was lovely and only  €10.00 each.

The highlight of the trip for me was the Gothic Quarter. We happily wandered the alleys & lane-ways for hours, checking out the wonderful patisseries, restaurants, boutiques and bars.We would then ramble into TheBenedict Bcn for a cold one and people watched for an hour or two. They do amazing cocktails by the way and the music is always on point.

One recommendation for dinner is Momo Restaurant. It was lovely and the staff are friendly and efficient and the food was delicious. We opted for the meal deal which was a starter, main course and dessert for the grand total of €19.00. The starter included 5 Tapas, yes 5 omg . It was divine. I opted for the Seafood Paella for my main course which was amazeballs.

I can almost taste it !

Our four days flew by but it was amazing and we loved every second of it. I would definitely stay in our hotel again as it was close to a metro line and had a few cute cafe’s and bars around it which we liked. Oh and the little rooftop pool was a great way to cool off and chill out after hours spent walking.

If your like me and love your food then here are a few images from the breakfast selection at the Hotel ILunion Auditori.

I hope you enjoyed reading about Barcelona as much as we enjoyed visiting it. We will be back again that’s for sure.

Until then, yours Truly, the girl who’s now craving Seafood Paella XxX
